Recap of the scientific seminar “Accounting and Auditing Driving ESG Implementation in Vietnam”

This morning, on June 26, 2023, the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing organized a scientific seminar titled “Accounting and Auditing Driving ESG Implementation in Vietnam.” The seminar was attended by invited guests, including Ms. Khuat Thi Lien Huong – FCCA, Head of Training for Southeast Asia Mainland, Mr. Nguyen Dinh Trung – CFA, Head of Senior Risk Management Advisory, Responsible for ESG Advisory Services in Vietnam at PwC Southeast Asia, and Mr. Nguyen Hai Ha – FCCA. From the FTU, there were Associate Professor Dr. Pham Thu Huong – Vice Rector of the University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Kim Anh – Head of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing, Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing, Dr. Bui Thu Hien – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Business Administration, Dr. Vu Thi Diem Phuc – Deputy Head of the Faculty of Business English, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Hien – Institute of Economics and International Business, Dr. Nguyen Thi Hoa – Journal of Management and International Economics, faculty members, and students of the Faculty of Accounting and Auditing.

The seminar began with opening speeches by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Kim Anh. The speeches emphasized that implementing ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) is a strong and essential trend in the current context. ESG implementation helps build a responsible business environment, creating benefits not only for the companies themselves but also for stakeholders and making positive contributions to society and the environment. ESG is considered a comprehensive approach to evaluating the effectiveness and sustainable value of a business. In the process of ESG implementation, Accounting and Auditing play an important role in recording, presenting, providing information, and managing risks for businesses.

At the seminar, the speakers presented their papers and shared their opinions on the importance of ESG in building a sustainable business environment and enhancing value for companies. They discussed the benefits that ESG brings as well as the challenges and difficulties encountered during the implementation process. The invited guests also emphasized the issues that arise for accounting and auditing in ESG reporting, ESG audit, financial instruments such as green bonds, sustainable linked loans (SLB, SLL), etc. The seminar also heard about the practical experiences of ESG implementation in Vietnam and the potential for future development.

In addition to the direct presentations, the seminar successfully attracted the attention of researchers, businesses, and students within and outside the university, with over 30 articles published in the seminar proceedings. The research results affirmed the role of ESG in the sustainable development goals of companies and the country, while providing solutions and recommendations to enhance awareness and the application of ESG in practice.
