On May 28, 2024, within the framework of the ACCA APAC Dialogue 2024 event organized by the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), the leadership of the Foreign Trade University (FTU) attended and re-signed the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), establishing bilateral cooperation between FTU and ACCA.
Attending the signing ceremony, from ACCA, were Ms. Helen Brand, Chief Executive of ACCA, along with representatives from ACCA Vietnam. From FTU, attendees included Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong, Vice President; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Cao Dinh Kien, Head of International Cooperation; Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tran Thi Kim Anh, Head of the Accounting – Auditing Faculty; Dr. Nguyen Thi Phuong Mai, Deputy Head of the Accounting – Auditing Faculty, and several faculty members.
At the ceremony, the representatives of the two entities, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong, Vice President of FTU, and Ms. Helen Brand, Chief Executive of ACCA, re-signed the MoU, establishing bilateral cooperation between the two sides. The cooperation agreement aims to continue developing the ACCA-oriented Accounting – Auditing training program (implemented at FTU since 2016) and to collaborate on integrating other certifications and joint programs to support student training and development towards successful careers in accounting and auditing.
In her speech at the ceremony, Ms. Helen Brand emphasized the importance of FTU as a strategic partner in the Asia-Pacific region. She highly valued the collaboration results over the past period, particularly the outstanding achievements of students in the ACCA-oriented Accounting – Auditing program, with annual top 5 global and top 1 Vietnam ranks in ACCA exams, and high awards in regional competitions such as the ACCA Hong Kong Business Competition 2023, Audit Simulation 2022, 2023 in Malaysia. She also expressed her desire to deepen and expand the cooperative relationship with FTU.
In her remarks, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Pham Thu Huong expressed appreciation for ACCA’s support and the desire to jointly develop training programs not only for university students but also to extend the target audience to high school students and postgraduate learners.
Within the general program of ACCA, representatives from the Accounting – Auditing Faculty participated in sessions of the Asia-Pacific Dialogue 2024 “Promoting Growth through International Cooperation and Sustainable Development in the Asia-Pacific Region.” The forum featured Mr. Vo Thanh Hung, Deputy Minister of Finance; Mr. Truong Anh Dung, Director General of the General Department of Vocational Education, Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs; Mr. Vu Duc Chinh, Director of the Accounting and Auditing Supervision Department, Ministry of Finance; leaders and representatives from various central ministries and agencies; leaders and representatives from associations: Vietnam Tax Consultants’ Association, Vietnam Association of Accountants and Auditors, Vietnam Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, Vietnam Association of Certified Public Accountants.
From the United Kingdom, Mr. Iain Frew, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Vietnam, attended the forum. The forum also gathered experts, scholars, and managers in management, finance, accounting, and auditing from the UK, Singapore, Malaysia, Australia, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and other countries.
The ACCA Asia-Pacific Dialogue 2024 brought together hundreds of delegates from governmental agencies, businesses, professional organizations, universities, and research institutes in Vietnam and the region. The forum aimed to base its strategies on factors such as human resource development, economic cooperation, and sustainable development to build a cohesive strategy for the Asia-Pacific region for shared prosperity in the future.
